If you have a street tree in your front yard, please check to make sure that it is not blocking a street light.
The City of Leawood has informed HRHA that it is individual homeowners, with street lights on their front lawns, who have the responsibility of keeping the lights clear. This ensures visibility and safety as originally designed. The city will send violation notices to homeowners who do not maintain their trees.
Meanwhile, the 123rd Street Berm continues to need a lot of work. Some more bushes need replacing and similarly we need some tree trimming work done to improve the overall look. The Board is getting an estimate on this work and will scrutinize this year's budget to see if we can get any berm work done this year.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Audrey Porsche, HRHA VP-Grounds.
There are four types of trees approved by the HRHA board for street planting:
sugar maple / male ginko
red oak / black gum
The minimum trunk size is 2"
ISLAND MAINTENANCE
We have received several requests to improve the look of our islands. Unfortunately, mulch is expensive and the low curbs allow too much mulch to run off in rain storms. Seeding has also been requested for some islands, but grass can only grow where enough light reaches it,
The Board is evaluating possible solutions to improve the look of HRHA islands, but does not have a solution at this time.
